Description
The double-degree programme is integrated into the existing Master's degree programmes at PUCP and TU Ilmenau (Technische Universität Ilmenau). The double-degree programme offers students the opportunity to gain international experience and intercultural competence, qualifying them for a future career in the ever more interconnected field of engineering.
The partner university offers students an alternative elective area of specialisation that extends beyond what is offered at their home university. The programme also gives students the opportunity to complete the Master's thesis over a one-year period. This extended mode, with the same scope, significantly enhances the completion of experimental theses. The two-semester stay at the partner university, as provided in the double-degree programme, enables students to attend nearly all relevant courses at the partner institution.
The minimum length of stay in the partner country is one semester.

Further details
Course organisation
Students spend the first two semesters alongside their Peruvian peers in the regular Master's degree programme at their home university, concurrently improving their Spanish language proficiency to level B2. In the third semester, they transfer to the partner university and remain there for two semesters.
At the partner university, students then take examinations in courses from the elective offerings while furthering their proficiency in Spanish. The choice of subjects must be mutually agreed upon with the home university. The Master's thesis, which is jointly supervised and assessed by a lecturer from both universities, is usually also completed at the partner university. The Master's thesis must be written in English or, by special arrangement, in German or Spanish, and is evaluated by the two supervising lecturers. The written reports must be submitted in English or, by special arrangement, in German or Spanish. The oral part of the Master's final examination will be assessed by a bi-national examination board. All credit points earned will be transferred to the grading system of the respective partner university and mutually recognised.
Graduates of the double degree programme will receive the Master's degree in "Maestría en Ingeniería Mecánica" from PUCP and the Master's degree in "Mechanical Engineering" from TU Ilmenau. The two certificates reference each other and are only valid when presented together.
A Diploma supplement will be issued

Applications for the double-degree programme are submitted with a letter of motivation addressed to the responsible examination board. Participants in the double-degree programme will be selected and admitted by a committee consisting of representatives from both universities. In cases where there are several applicants, the grade point average, foreign language skills, and level of preparation will be decisive factors.
Early familiarity with the language of the partner country and participation in study-related language courses are recommended.
