Description
CoDaS is an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master's (EMJM) programme, funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. CoDaS is also one of the first degrees promoted by the European Programme University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering (Unite!). Unite! envisions a "European University", in which university-hubs at excellent European institutes share resources and services in education, research, and management, thereby removing structural barriers and generating new frameworks for a European degree.
In this two-year Master’s programme, students will study at least in two of the partner universities and in two countries, one year at both.
Why study CoDaS?
While studying CoDaS, students gain proficiency in...
- project planning,
- teamwork,
- coordination,
- entrepreneurship,
- critical thinking,
- and sustainability.
The programme empowers students to be able to solve industry-relevant problems using cutting-edge tools in artificial intelligence, automation, control theory, data analytics, network security, wireless systems, distributed systems, and signal processing. Training includes designing and analysing machine learning models and communication systems.
This skills portfolio is in demand on the international labour market.
For further information on the CoDaS programme, check out the official CoDaS homepage following this link: https://www.unite-codas-master.eu/.

Course organisation
CoDaS is an international joint Master’s programme. During the programme, you will study at least in two partner universities. The programme is structured into two years.
First year
Basic studies at Aalto, Técnico Lisboa, TU Braunschweig, or UPC BarcelonaTech
- General studies (languages, soft skills)
- Mathematics/Programming/Security
- Communications
- Data Science
Second year
Specialisation studies, specific to all consortium universities, and thesis
- Communications, Data Science, and Security (Grenoble INP-UGA)
- Communications and Data Science (Tecnico Lisboa)
- Communications, Automation, and Machine Learning (Aalto University)
- Communications, Machine Learning, Medical Informatics & Biomedicine (TU Braunschweig)
- Communications, 5G/6G and Internet of Things, and Data Science (UPC BarcelonaTech)
The total number of credits of the programme is 120 ECTS.
Students may choose between four home universities (first year: Aalto, Técnico Lisboa, TU Braunschweig, or UPC BarcelonaTech) and five host universities (second year: Aalto, Técnico Lisboa, TU Braunschweig, UPC BarcelonaTech, or Grenoble INP-UGA). During the first year, you will complete courses with 60 ECTS at your home university, and in the second year, you will complete courses with 30 ECTS and the thesis with 30 ECTS at your host university. In the first year, you will already get a chance to study your field of specialisation by completing a course online provided by the second year university.
All students of the programme are required to study in two countries other than their country of residence at the start of studies. If you are a resident of the country of the home or host university before starting in the programme, you are required to complete the final semester (thesis work) with another host university or within the industry in another country.
After completing the programme, you will graduate from the two universities where you have completed 60 ECTS, including the thesis. You will be granted a double degree, meaning that you will receive a diploma from both universities. The titles of the degrees in each partner university are the following:
- Aalto University: Master of Science (Technology)
- Grenoble INP-UGA: Master Mention Informatique
- Técnico Lisboa: Mestre em Engenharia Eletrotécnica e de Computadores
- TU Braunschweig: Master of Science (MSc) Computer Science
- UPC: Màster Erasmus Mundus in Communications Engineering and Data Science
The level of the qualification is second-cycle university degree (Master's level), aligned with the Bologna process.
The expertise gained through CoDaS programme features diverse programming skills, good mathematical background, goal-oriented problem solving, as well as efficient project planning and management.
