Description
The research-oriented Master's programme in Mathematics provides a high-profile education in the following areas:
- algebraic geometry
- algebra, group theory and geometric group theory
- applied analysis
- functional analysis, operator theory, and free probability theory
- quantum groups and quantum information theory
- mathematical data analysis
- numerics for partial differential equations and inverse problems
- stochastics and financial and insurance mathematics
In our programme, we facilitate close contact with the research projects of the department, e.g. the transregional collaborative research centre (Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Application – SFB-TRR 195). Furthermore, we are developing a new Master’s programme on quantum information theory in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Physics.
There is a strong collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and the Max Planck Institute for Informatics in the areas of discrete mathematics, complexity theory, and computational geometry.
