Biology – From Molecules to Organisms (MSc) Osnabrück University

This international Master's programme offers a research-oriented specialisation in current areas of molecular and organismal biology. Biology research at Osnabrück University covers a broad methodological and thematic spectrum, ranging from structural and biophysical principles to cell biological and physiological phenomena as well as questions related to ecology, evolution, and animal behaviour. In a stimulating and scientifically excellent environment, the Master's programme offers:

• three possible tracks: (1) General Biology; (2) Evolution, Behaviour, and Ecology; and (3) Cell and Molecular Biology
• a flexible selection of modules within the chosen track
• interdisciplinary qualifications taught in special courses
• a high proportion of research-oriented, practical training
• a final thesis in an excellent research environment with access to cutting-edge laboratory infrastructure

• After a one-week lecture series in which all research groups of Osnabrück Biology introduce themselves, you will choose an individual selection of Master's modules. Through a balanced combination of lectures, seminars, and practice-oriented courses, you will deepen your scientific skills in the corresponding subjects.
• An excursion or internship module offers you the opportunity to specifically strengthen your practical skills. The assistance module involves the supervision of Bachelor's students and will help you to acquire key qualifications in the field of teaching.
• Research-oriented project work within two different working groups will prepare you for your Master's thesis. An accompanying literature course will allow you to dive into the topic of your research project.
• Due to the intensive preparation, you'll gain the ability to largely work independently on the research project for your Master's thesis, thus further developing your scientific skills. This approach will give you the best chance of completing a highly qualified Master's thesis within the available time period.

After consultation with the lecturers, modules of the study programme can be replaced with coursework that was completed abroad.

No tuition fees

Each semester, students are required to pay approx. 350 EUR as a semester fee (including free use of regional public transport services).

In order to cover personal expenses during the study programme, we recommend that students budget at least 860 EUR per month for accommodation, living, health insurance, books, and miscellaneous expenses.

A completed Bachelor's degree in a biology programme (BSc) or an equivalent university degree is required. For further information, please refer to the admission regulations.

Students are required to demonstrate an English language proficiency at a level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). For further information, please refer to the admission regulations.

Students who have completed their Bachelor's studies may be employed as student assistants.

The accommodation office of the student services ("Studentenwerk") offers modern single rooms in dormitories and helps students find private rooms and flats. The rooms must be rented for at least half a year. The cost of a single room in a student dormitory is approx. 180 to 350 EUR per month.
