Description
The Renewable Energy Systems degree programme focuses on the planning, implementation and management of systems that use renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and biomass. It combines technical expertise with practical experience and ensures that graduates are ideally equipped to set new impulses in the energy sector and take on management tasks.

Course organisation
The programme offers a comprehensive mix of core and elective modules covering a wide range of topics essential for the development of renewable energy expertise. The course structure is designed to provide students with both fundamental knowledge and specialised skills in renewable energy technologies.
For students with 180 ECTS, the qualification semester includes fundamental courses such as Introduction to Renewable Energy Systems, Basics in Electrical Engineering, Basics in Thermodynamics, Basics in Mechanical Engineering, Scientific Work, Cultural Studies and Scientific Writing as well as German as a Foreign Language.
- In the first semester, students deepen their knowledge of bioenergy systems, project management, life cycle analysis, Power-to-X and elective subject 1, and they continue their studies in German as a foreign language.
- The second semester focuses on advanced topics such as photovoltaic systems, wind turbines, solar thermal laboratory, a scientific project and elective subject 2.
- The third semester is dedicated to the preparation of the Master's thesis and its presentation and defence (colloquium).
The elective courses offer a variety of topics such as bioengineering, numerical methods in heat and mass transfer, data science in Python, environmental and sustainability management, renewable raw material, and mechatronic systems as well as computer-aided (process) engineering, so that students can tailor their education to their individual interests in the field of renewable energies.

Academic admission requirements
To be admitted to the programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy technology, renewable energy technology or a related field
- A minimum CGPA (cumulative grade point average) of 2.5 (according to the German grading system) or better
- English language skills at level B2 (see below)
- APS (Academic Achievement Certificate) for applicants from India, China or Vietnam
Language requirements
