About us

Kiel University of Applied Sciences

The Kiel University of Applied Sciences (HAW Kiel) is a university of applied sciences, established in 1969. It is one of three public institutions of higher learning in Kiel, Germany. It offers around 30 Bachelor‘s and Master‘s degree programmes, supplementary degrees, and continuing education courses by the faculties of Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Media, and Social Work & Health.

Courses
The six different departments offer 38 different courses of study. Of these, 19 are Bachelor's courses. Among typical courses like Economics and Social Work, there are also two maritime ones: Naval Architecture and Technology and Offshore Technology which can only be studied at the HAW Kiel.

Location

The campus in Neumühlen-Dietrichsdorf (Kiel), which was built in 1998, is home to all faculties except Agriculture. The campus is part of a residential area. The university buildings are therefore not all located directly next to each other but are partly separated by residential buildings. The University of Applied Sciences has a total of 22 buildings here, the majority of which house seminar rooms, laboratories, and workshops for the individual departments. There is also a canteen, several cafeterias, a daycare centre, and three student residences.

The Department of Agricultural Economics is based in Osterrönfeld near Rendsburg. It is home to the Lindenhof experimental field, an IT laboratory, an agricultural chemistry laboratory, a library, and a canteen.

The nursing course has been offered at the Neumünster site since the summer semester of 2023. This is realised in cooperation with the Friedrich Ebert Hospital. In the medium term, the physiotherapy course will also be based there and a health department will be established. To this end, it is planned to construct a new building and extend the existing building by the beginning of 2026.
