All courses are taught in English. The Master's thesis must be written in English.

In the interdisciplinary Master's degree programme Industrial Engineering and Management, you will deepen and supplement the academic qualifications you acquired in your Bachelor's degree in an individual way – in the subjects of Business Administration, Economics, Informatics and Engineering. The standard period of study is four semesters, and you will earn 120 credit points (CP) based on the ECTS framework.

Students of Industrial Engineering and Management not only benefit from the environment at KIT, which is one of the eleven German Universities of Excellence, but they are also a part of an interdisciplinary programme that is anchored in its "own" department.

Industrial Engineering and Management gives you the opportunity to design your own academic profile. With no mandatory technical specialisation, you can shape your degree programme based on your interests.

For EU students, there are no tuition fees.

For international students, there is a fee of 1,500 EUR per semester.

In your first two semesters, you will focus on securing your primary knowledge in the Quantitative Core Module. Within the Quantitative Core Module you will choose carefully selected courses in Economics, Business Administration, Operations Research, Statistics or Informatics. 

You will also have the opportunity to develop technical and methodological skills in the fields of Business and Economics and Engineering and Informatics within the compulsory course area.

Throughout the first, second and third semesters, you will build your individual profile through the Seminar Module and Supervised Profile Definition course. The Supervised Profile Definition course involves creating an individual study plan that suits your needs with the assistance of the faculty.

In the third semester, you will further expand your individual profile within the compulsory elective areas. You can sharpen your personal skills profile by choosing your own specialisations in the Business and Economics, Engineering and Informatics areas and/or additionally in Statistics, Law or Sociology, for example.

In your final semester, you will complete your Master's thesis.

You have various options for integrating a stay abroad into your Master's degree course. For example, you can study at a foreign university of your choice for one or two semesters via Erasmus+ or as a free mover. You can also do an internship abroad. In addition, selective mobility is possible via Eucor –the European Campus: KIT students can flexibly attend individual courses in addition to courses at KIT or study full-time for an entire semester or year at an Eucor partner university.

The International Relations Office (IRO) of the KIT Department of Business and Economics and the International Students Office can help you plan your stay abroad.

The requirements for admission to the English-language Master's degree programme Industrial Engineering and Management are as follows:

• Bachelor's degree: a Bachelor's degree (or at least an equivalent degree) from a university, university of applied sciences, university of cooperative education or a foreign university in a Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or Physics programme. The course must be at least three years and have been completed with at least 180 ECTS credits.
• Eligibility for examination: you must still have your examination entitlement in a Master's degree programme Industrial Engineering and Management, Industrial Engineering or a comparable degree programme. 
• Aptitude test: a passed aptitude test is required.
  • GMAT (Focus Edition) with a minimum score of 550 points or
  • GRE General with a minimum score of 315 points
• Proof of English language skills: This must be provided in accordance with the requirements of the KIT admission and enrolment regulations (details below).

For the Master's degree programme Industrial Engineering and Management, you need sufficient knowledge of the English language. Your English language skills must correspond to at least level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The following is sufficient proof of your English language skills:

• Your university entrance qualification, if
  • it certifies English language proficiency at CEFR level B2 or higher or
  • it shows that you have studied English for at least five years up to graduation and your final grade or average grade of the last two years of English lessons corresponds to at least the German grade 4 (sufficient) or at least 5 grade points or
• A university degree with English as the sole language of instruction and examination in the completed degree programme - this must be clearly stated in the Diploma Supplement, Transcript of Records or in the degree certificate.

Otherwise, only the following English tests listed in the KIT admission and enrolment regulations are accepted as proof of English proficiency:

• TOEFL iBT (internet-based) with at least 90 points
• IELTS with an overall score of at least 6.5, no section below 5.5
• TOEIC with at least 400 points in Listening, 385 in Reading, 160 in Speaking, 150 in Writing
• Cambridge Certificate C1 Advanced (CAE)
• Cambridge Certificate C2 Proficiency (CPE)
• Cambridge Certificate B2 First (FCE)
• UNIcert, at least level II
• Pearson PTE Academic with at least 58.5 points overall and at least 56.8 in Listening, 60.6 in Reading, 53.5 in Speaking, 74.1 in Writing

There are student dorms available to students in Karlsruhe. We advise you to apply as early as possible, as rooms are booked up quickly. There is also the possibility to live in private accommodation. More information can be found here.
