The Master's degree course of study in Intelligent Mechatronic Systems specialises in the development and application of mechatronics systems employing intelligent methods like AI. This programme is aimed at students who are interested in the interface between mechanics, electronics and computer science and want to combine these disciplines to create innovative solutions. The Master's programme in Intelligent Mechatronic Systems focuses on enhancing these components with artificial intelligence, machine learning and intelligent control systems. It offers a wide range of elective courses. The aim is to develop autonomous, adaptive and efficient systems that can be used in a wide range of industries, from the automotive industry to robotics. Winter semester (September to February):
Lecture period: middle/end of September to the end of January (including winter holidays)
Examination period: end of January to early February

Summer semester (March to August):
Lecture period: mid-March to the end of June (including holidays after Pentecost)
Examination period: early July to the end of July

As the programme is scheduled to start in winter semester 2026, all application documents must be handed in by 15 June 2026.

Thus, all required documents (e.g. language certificates, confirmation of university entrance qualification, etc.) must be completed by this time.

In the state of Baden-Württemberg, international students who are not nationals of a European Union (EU) state or the European Economic Area (EEA) are required to pay tuition fees of 1,500 EUR per semester.

Tuition fee waivers will be granted automatically to students from the EU and EEA, i.e. no tuition fees apply.

The programme is taught completely in English. Students will learn German in a complementary German language course.

The cost of living for a student is about 800 EUR to 1,000 EUR per month.

Applicants should have an excellent or good first degree of 2.5 or better. We require a Bachelor's degree with 210 ECTS. Graduates with 180 ECTS can be admitted. They will be requested to obtain an extra 30 ECTS credits in appropriate Bachelor's programmes at Heilbronn University or by conducting a six-month internship.

Before applying, non-German Bachelor's degrees need to be declared equivalent to a German first degree. Please check the information on the study programme's website concerning the application process for this programme.

German language skills: Non necessary

English language skills: 

• TOEFL (550 points paper-based version; 213 points computer- based version; 79 points internet-based version), IELTS (Test Level 6.0), CAE (minimum C), or TOIC (730 points),
• or a continuous stay of at least one year in an English-speaking foreign country as evidenced by studies at an English-speaking university, employment certificates or similar documents

(These requirements are not applicable to native English speakers. A native speaker is considered to be someone who was raised in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, UK, or the USA.)
