Courses are held in English (100%).

However, one elective module in "Special Features of German IP Law" is taught and examined in German. German language skills with level B2+ are required for this.

Students who wish to study the winter semester in Strasbourg must demonstrate a very good knowledge of French.

The programme focuses on IP law, data law and IP allied rights. During the winter semester, the focus lies particularly on patent and copyright law. The summer semester is dedicated to data law, trademark law and design law. Of course, there will be seminars, workshop and moot courts on all kind of IP-related issues throughout the year. With the study programme, our students have the possibility to adjust their studies ideally to their study and career interests. The study programme is modular, in addition to lectures and case studies, students will complete seminars in hard or soft IP, will be able to participate in a moot court, will attend the traditional practitioner forum and complete an internship. There is also the possibility to spend the autumn/winter semester at one of our nine partner universities.

The one-year programme is divided into four parts, students can enrol twice a year. During the winter semester, students can choose to study at TUD or at one of the partner universities in Krakow, Exeter, London, Prague, Strasbourg, Szeged, Tallinn or Tokyo. During the lecture-free period of the first semester, i.e. in the months of February and March or August and September, our students complete an internship of at least four weeks. The total processing time for writing the thesis is 15 weeks, ideally starting in the second semester of the Master's programme. However, the work should be completed no later than one year after the last semester of study.

This can be done at public authorities or courts, in companies or law firms in Germany or abroad. Our students regularly receive information about this at the beginning of their studies. Of course, it is also possible to complete the mandatory internship for longer than four weeks, for example in an internship semester.

Currently, students pay ~300 EUR per semester (i.e. for six months). This includes a ticket for public transport and regional trains in all of Germany. Additionally, students can use a bike rental service all over the city for free for 30 min. The contribution also assures concessions in the university cafeterias and offers benefits (e.g. price reductions) for many cultural and leisure activities in Dresden.

Dresden offers high quality of living at very moderate costs. Currently, students should expect to pay around 850 EUR per month including rent, food, insurance and basic expenses. This figure is relatively low compared to other big German cities.

Graduates of a non-juridical university programme may be admitted if they can prove that they have sufficient legal knowledge (at least five ECTS).

In order to top up their budget, some students may want to look for temporary work in Dresden. If so, different regulations apply for students from EU member states, countries of the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, and students from outside the European Union and the EEA area. In addition, restrictions on the duration of employment may apply. Professors, lecturers and group leaders involved in the Master's programme may offer students the possibility of working as academic assistants. However, living expenses can be financed only partially through a job as an academic assistant.

It is still relatively easy to find affordable accommodation in Dresden. Accommodation is available either via the "Studentenwerk Dresden" or on the private market. Rent for a single room in a student residence is approx. 250 EUR per month.
Private housing can be found online. We recommend that you move into a hall of residence at the beginning of your stay in Dresden. Subsequently, you can look for a place on the private market or in a shared apartment, which is known as a "Wohngemeinschaft" in German.

TU Dresden offers plenty of counselling and training within its Career Service to help students with finding professional orientation. They offer workshops to equip students with professional skills and aid students with optimising their CV.
