Languages

English is the primary language of instruction for the International Business programme, used exclusively in semesters one to three and predominantly thereafter. In later semesters, students can choose elective courses in English or German, with English courses prioritised. The programme can be completed entirely in English, ensuring accessibility for international students.

Description

The International Business programme at TH Nürnberg is a seven-semester course, awarding 210 ECTS credits. English is the exclusive language of instruction for the first three semesters and predominant thereafter, with elective courses available in English or German. The programme admits 70 to 80 students annually, with approximately one-third being international, representing around 40 nationalities. This diversity, coupled with the small cohort size, cultivates a global perspective and fosters close, personal connections between students, faculty, and staff.

Graduates acquire a comprehensive understanding of managing in a globalised world, enriched by a mandatory year abroad that includes an internship and a semester at a partner university, seamlessly integrated into the curriculum. Students can specialise in areas such as Finance, Logistics, or Human Resources, tailoring their education to their career goals.

Additionally, the programme offers the opportunity to earn a second full Bachelor’s degree through double-degree partnerships with:

  • Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico
  • International College of Management, Sydney, Australia
  • Providence University, Taichung, Taiwan
  • Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences, Finland
  • Universidad de Granada, Spain
  • Universidad de Valparaíso, Chile

This combination of global exposure, specialised knowledge, and dual-degree options equips graduates with the skills and credentials to excel in international business environments.

This programme lays the foundation for exceptional careers abroad or in internationally active organisations.

Curriculum and Skill Development

International Experience

A 20-week internship abroad in semester four and a semester at one of over 90 partner universities outside Germany in semester five are mandatory, fostering personal and professional growth and enhancing global employability.

Advanced Study and Specialisation

Semesters six and seven focus on advanced courses like International Financial Management and International Management with cases. The Project Work course sharpens practical skills through independent projects (e.g. business plan, event, or applied research). Students conclude with a five-month Bachelor’s thesis, which can be a university research project or conducted with a company in or outside Germany. Elective courses enable specialisation in fields such as Digital Business, Finance, HR Management, International Economics, Marketing, Operations Management/Logistics, or Sustainability.

Requirements

Academic admission requirements

The International Business programme is a numerus clausus (NC) programme with a competitive selection process due to limited places. Admission is based on the final average grade of your university entrance qualification (e.g. school-leaving certificate or prior studies). EU applicants can boost their grade by demonstrating high English proficiency or relevant full-time work experience in a business-related field.

Language requirements

Applicants who hold a higher-education entrance qualification from an EU-member country can submit one of the following English test results in order to improve their application. Whereas applicants that hold a higher-education entrance qualification from outside the European Union are required to prove their English proficiency by submitting one of the following English test results:

  • TOEFL (Internet-based test): 94 points
  • IELTS: 6.5
  • TOEIC: 485 (listening) and 450 (reading)
  • Cambridge CAE: grade C
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 75 or better

International Business students have to take a second foreign business language – Spanish or French for German students as well as German for international students. Students without any prior knowledge may indeed start at the beginner's level (A1). Compulsory for the degree, however, is the completion of language classes at the B1 and B2 levels. Therefore, we strongly recommend having basic language skills before the start of your studies.
