Description

It is young, interdisciplinary and has a global future: The discipline of information systems is one of the most important disciplines of the 21st century. Computers and the Internet have changed not only our everyday life worldwide but also our working world. International IT specialists in information systems are in greater demand today than ever before. They have the best career opportunities not only in the field of information technology but also in business and administration. With their specialist knowledge and international skill set, graduates can be employed in a wide variety of fields globally.

Study International Information Systems in Augsburg

In addition to practice-oriented knowledge in the areas of software development and modelling, the course of studies also provides the business management know-how required for project planning and implementation of application-oriented IT solutions. Moreover, the course of studies imparts the skills to successfully manage projects in an international environment and to be able to act confidently in intercultural working environments. This is guaranteed by courses held in English, the culturally mixed student body, the teaching of intercultural skills and the possibility of semesters abroad in various partner universities. Due to a high proportion of subject-related electives, there are very good opportunities to determine the main focus of studies according to personal interests. In addition, skills such as teamwork, project management and presentation techniques are specially trained — so nothing stands in the way of an optimal international career start!

Further details

Course organisation

The two-semester orientation programme imparts basic knowledge in the fields of information systems, computer science and business administration. Students learn computer basics, software development, databases, statistics and accounting. Technical English and foreign language skills are also in focus. International students learn German, and German students learn a second foreign language from the range offered by the university's language centre.

From the third semester onwards, the specialisation phase begins in the four subject areas. The curriculum now includes customising and programming information systems, data analytics and applied artificial intelligence. Business management knowledge is extended by knowledge from the areas of controlling, production & logistics, finance and e-business. The students bring their foreign language skills to a higher level.

The degree programme is generally taught in English. In higher semesters, modules are also offered in German. This gives international students the opportunity to use and improve their German language skills.

In the fifth semester, in addition to further specialisation, students will be able to apply what they have learned in an internship semester. Within the framework of larger IT projects in companies, students have the opportunity to independently put their acquired know-how into practice.

The elective courses that are offered in the intensification phase during the last two semesters give the students the opportunity to choose modules that match their aptitudes and later career expectations. The offer is adapted by the faculty to the current requirements.

Requirements

Academic admission requirements

Further information can be found under "Application and Admission".

Selection procedure via an aptitude test:

  • Apply via HISinOne and upload the required application documents.
  • The link to the aptitude test is displayed during the application process. It must be saved as a separate e-mail when the link to the aptitude test is sent to applicants. The aptitude test must be completed within two weeks.

Language requirements

English (B2) is recommended – all modules in this programme are taught in English. In higher semesters, modules can be selected in German.

No formal proof of proficiency in English or German is required for admission to the degree programme. In order to be able to follow the courses reasonably, we strongly recommend English language skills at level B2 or higher (according to CEFR). Since German is the official language in Germany, the more proficient you are in German, the easier will be your transition from your home country into the German university system and everyday life. Furthermore, German language skills will greatly increase your chances in finding a student job and/or an internship at a German company. You may start with little or no German language proficiency, but you should gain at least level A2 or B1 during your studies. A variety of German courses are offered by THA's Language Center to help you learn German quickly and well.

In addition to the mandatory documents, further documents can be submitted voluntarily in order to improve your chances of gaining admission:

  • German test – at least A2 (improvement of the score by two points – everything below this level is perceived as positive further engagement)
  • English tests with at least B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages; improvement of the score by two points
