Description
The leather and textile industries are exciting and rapidly growing sectors that are worldwide in demand. They offer a wide range of career opportunities both nationally and internationally. The increasing demand for sustainable materials and processes, as well as transparency in supply chains, is generating new opportunities in areas such as research, material and process development, production, and quality control.
Leather and Textile Engineering can only be studied in this combination at the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences. Furthermore, an engineering degree in “Leather Processing and Shoe Technology” is unique in Germany, as it can only be acquired at the Campus Pirmasens at the Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences.
Leather and Textile Engineering offers a research- and application-oriented education for students with an interest in materials science, chemistry, design, and production technology. As part of the training, excellent equipped laboratories are available for research and development.
Graduates have the practical and theoretical prerequisites for technical professions in the field of quality management, materials and product development. The broad-based degree programme also qualifies students for research activities and a consecutive Master’s degree programme followed by a doctorate at Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences as well as at other colleges and universities.

Course organisation
This programme offers the opportunity to complete the first two semesters of study in either English (at Campus Kaiserslautern/Pirmasens) or in German (at Campus Pirmasens).
These semesters include modules in natural sciences and engineering, as well as the fundamentals of the leather and textile industries.
Subsequent semesters are focused on the chosen specialisation ("Textile Engineering" or "Leather and Shoe Engineering", with overlapping modules continuing to be taught together.
The specific subject modules of both specialisations will be taught for all students in English to meet global requirements of these industries.
Additionally, elective modules allow students to tailor their studies to their individual interests.
Already at the time of enrolment, students choose one of the two specialisations of "Textile Engineering" or "Leather Processing and Shoe Engineering". The choice can be changed until the end of the fourth semester.
The practical and Bachelor’s theses can be written in German or in English. The choice is yours!
A Diploma supplement will be issued
Yes
International elements
Integrated/optional study abroad unit(s)
Integrated/optional study abroad unit(s) outside Germany
During their studies, students have the opportunity to spend a semester abroad. This not only sharpens the academic profile and promotes intercultural competence, but they improve their foreign language skills, make new friends from all over the world and certainly have a lot of fun. They can choose between several partner universities and countries. The "Integrated Semester Abroad" at the "Swedish School of Textiles" (University of Borås in Sweden) or the Technical University of Liberec (Czech Republic) are particularly suitable for the "Textile Engineering" major, as they enable students to complete their degree in the standard period of study. The International Office will be happy to advise them on the various options.
Integrated internships
The Bachelor's thesis should be completed within an industry context. Students must apply independently for a Bachelor's thesis, and the company can be located anywhere in the world.
