Possibility of finding part-time employment

Foreign students registered at universities in Germany can work without an approval requirement, provided that this work does not exceed 140 full days or 280 half days in total during a calendar year. Jobs as research or student assistants can also be performed without an approval requirement and without any time limits.
However, finding jobs in companies or at the university is not easy. Applicants should also be aware of the fact that studying at university is highly demanding and might not allow enough time to take on a job at the same time. Therefore, international students should not plan to finance their stay in Germany by earning money while studying.

About us

University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten

"Rural Base – Global Face", is the slogan of the University of Applied Sciences Ravensburg-Weingarten. It supports young people wishing to study abroad. Co-operations with approximately more than 80 partner universities from Mexico to Thailand open up various possibilities for gaining experience abroad. The proportion of international students coming from all over the world amounts to 15%, which is a quite high rate compared to other universities of applied sciences.

Within the past ten years, the number of students studying on their modern campus has tripled from 1,000 to about 3,600. The university ranks among the top 30 universities in Germany as revealed in a survey published by the “Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung” (CHE). The individual study programmes have also achieved excellent results in the CHE ranking. What young people appreciate most is the excellent mentoring they get, the practical relevance of their studies, and the well-equipped laboratories such as the Formula Student, RoboCup Team, Rover3Mars, and Innovation Lab, among others.

The university offers 24 Bachelor's and 12 Master's programmes in technology, economy, and social sciences. Lectures and seminars in small groups ensure intensive support, focusing on project-oriented knowledge acquisition. The students can apply their knowledge by means of practice projects in industrial enterprises. They get further practical experience in laboratory tutorials, in an obligatory internship in the industry, and an application-oriented final thesis. Due to the close contact with the global companies in Upper Swabia, our students are perfectly prepared to enter their professional lives.

The International Office is a service and information facility for all university members. It includes the coordination of incoming and outgoing mobility. This includes support and advice for international full-time students as well as the exchange of students, lecturers, and staff coming to RWU or going abroad from RWU. The International Office supports international students and guests by organising the welcome & orientation week, buddy programme, peer-to-peer counselling, career service, and more.

Location

Weingarten is a rural town with approx. 26,000 inhabitants, including some 7,000 students enrolled at the two universities. Situated in the south-west of Germany in proximity to Switzerland and Austria, it is embedded in a beautiful countryside. The area offers leisure activities such as skiing and hiking in the Alps, walking or cycling in the surrounding hills, and swimming in Lake Constance or the many small, surrounding lakes.

Weingarten is famous for its basilica, the biggest baroque church north of the Alps. The neighbouring town of Ravensburg has a lovely medieval town centre and offers a rich cultural programme including theatre performances, jazz, and sports events.

The Lake Constance / Upper Swabia region is also one of the strongest economic regions in Europe. It is home to numerous innovative companies as well as to global companies such as ZF, Airbus, and Rolls Royce Power Systems.

The airport at Friedrichshafen is only 20 km away. Thus, living in Weingarten combines the comfortable atmosphere of a small town with the advantages of a strong economic area.
