Description
The Bachelor of Science programme in Earth Sciences and Sustainable Management of Environmental Resources (ESSMER) at Constructor University is a multidisciplinary academic offering with an emphasis on the phenomena and processes occurring on or near the surface of the Earth. Students in this programme gain a comprehensive understanding of the surface environment of the Earth, encompassing land, oceans, atmosphere, and biosphere, as well as the influence of human activities on these natural systems. ESSMER is grounded in a robust academic base of chemistry, mathematics, physics, and economics, blending traditional geosciences like geology and environmental science with modern approaches such as digital geoscience. The programme employs essential tools and methodologies from geochemistry, geodata analysis, data management, and sustainability economics. Its modular curriculum is enhanced by a selection of optional courses from the social sciences, like economics and management, and life sciences, such as biochemistry, cell biology, and microbiology, promoting a comprehensive approach to environmental issues from multiple scientific perspectives.
The ESSMER programme equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to tackle contemporary challenges and significant research topics, including the sustainable management and exploration of natural resources, the ongoing changes in the Earth's climate and oceans over both short and long terms, the scientific handling and analysis of extensive digital geodata, and the urgent anthropogenic impacts on the environment. This programme is particularly suited to proactive students who have a deep interest in the natural processes and environmental dynamics of the Earth as well as the effects of human interventions. Participants should be keen on outdoor work and driven to address pressing global issues while considering the economic implications of their findings.
