Programme Description

The scholarships enable particularly gifted Master's students, doctoral candidates and (junior) researchers of German language and literature studies to come to the Institute of German Philology at Würzburg University for the purpose of education and (further) training. Candidates from specific countries in Central and Eastern Europe are eligible to apply. The funding covers
  • short stays (1-2 months),
  • study periods of 1 semester,
  • post-graduate programmes (1 year, can be extended by 1 year),
  • research projects as part of doctoral studies (1-6 months),
  • and research projects of applicants with doctorates (1-12 months).
The monthly grant amounts vary depending on the sponsorship purpose. The non-material support entails close mentoring during the courses and/or research projects as well as social events as part of the Institute of German Philology's programme for guest students.

Target Group

highly qualified students of the German language and literature from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine

Academic Requirements

Depending on the purpose; usually at least a Bachelor's degree is required.

Scholarship Value

The amount of the grant depends on the purpose. It ranges from 950 EUR for a short stay to 2,250 EUR for a research project.
