Description
We are at a pivotal moment in history, during which the global environmental problems we face today – such as air, water and soil pollution, and climate change with the necessary decarbonisation – are the steepest challenges we have ever known. But we are also at a turning point where we have the chance to make a real difference. We urgently need engineering experts from all over the world to help improve the environmental situation and promote the sustainable use of resources.
Our graduates work in the fields of environment, energy, climate protection, sustainability and resource efficiency in almost all sectors: whether manufacturing industry, logistics and transportation, energy and construction industry, or internationally active NGOs.

Further details
Course organisation
The study programme includes scientific and application-oriented content with a particular focus on responding to the needs encountered in practical scenarios. To achieve this goal, the programme builds on and expands the basic engineering knowledge acquired during the Bachelor's degree and deals with application-oriented tasks that arise in practical working environments.
Particular emphasis is placed on the independent identification of problems and the development of solutions. This takes place within the context of project work, practical laboratory work among other assignments.
The structure of the study programme and the range of modules offered ensure an interdisciplinary approach and practical relevance. Besides specialised knowledge, students acquire additional management and language skills in the compulsory elective modules.
Both the first and second semesters cover a variety of compulsory modules of the mitigation of environmental and global warming impairment. In the third semester, students write their Master's theses.
If necessary (students with Bachelor's degrees with less than 210 ECTS or equivalent, if the degree is from abroad), students complete an additional internship semester or additional credits through courses before starting their Master's theses. Proven working time as an engineer can also be recognised for this purpose.
A Diploma supplement will be issued

- Language training provided
- Specialist literature in other languages
- International comparisons and thematic reference to the international context
Integrated internships
Depending on the entry qualification (Bachelor's degree with less than 210 ECTS or equivalent, if the degree is from abroad), an acquisition of additional credits is required, e.g. through an internship. This increases the duration of the degree programme to a total of four semesters.
Course-specific, integrated German language courses

Costs & requirements

Tuition fees per semester
No tuition fees
Semester contribution
The degree programme is free of tuition, but all students are required to pay moderate semester fees. At the time of publication, these amounted to 72 EUR/semester.
Costs of living
When applying for a visa or residence permit, students need to prove they can afford to study and live in Germany. As of 2025, that is deemed proven if they have at least 992 EUR available per month.
Even for students who do not need a visa, we consider this amount appropriate to cover the cost of living in Germany.
Requirements
Academic admission requirements
- A completed Bachelor's degree in Environmental Protection, Climate Neutral Energy Systems, Water Management Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Energy and Water Management at Weihenstephan-Triesdorf University of Applied Sciences with a final degree grade of at least least "good" (grade point average of 2.5 or better according to the German grading system)
- Alternatively, an equivalent degree with a final degree grade of at least "good" (grade point average of 2.5 or better according to the German grading system) in the field of environmental engineering or a related field, provided that at least 180 EC or six semesters can be proven
- Equivalence is considered for studies including at least 50% of the subject groups mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology (MINT) and if knowledge from the following core areas can be demonstrated: technical mechanics, design engineering, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, process engineering, electrical engineering
- Applicants who completed an undergraduate degree outside of Germany need to submit a preliminary review documentation ("Vorprüfungsdokumentation – VPD") from uni-assist.
- An additional certificate from an Academic Verification Office (APS) in their home country is necessary for applicants with a degree from India, the People's Republic of China, or Vietnam.
Language requirements
An English language certificate at a level B2 (CEFR) is required for the application.
In addition, non-German speaking students must provide a German language certificate at level A2 (CEFR) by the end of the second semester. For German speaking students, an additional C1 conversation course in English is required instead.

Accommodation
Many local residents and neighbours provide rental accommodations to students near the Triesdorf campus. This creates a strong bond between the university and the village community. It also means that most students can find affordable accommodations within a few kilometres of the campus, either in a student residence or in a shared flat.
The link to the HSWT landlord directory and the directory of landlords provided by the municipality of Weidenbach are available on our website.
Career advisory services
The Career Service supports students during their studies and during the transition from university to employment in all aspects of seeking and applying for employment and in acquiring key skills. The free services of the Career Service are open to all students in all semesters. Students benefit from workshops, lectures and e-learning opportunities, career coaching, advice, and application checks.
For international students, the Career Service offers a wide range of services, with a special focus on facilitating successful career entry in Germany.
