Description
With this degree programme, we will train you to become a qualified specialist in the field of circular economy technologies. The programme lasts three semesters and leads to a Master of Engineering (MEng).
Master of Engineering degrees in these fields are in high demand on the job market; they are internationally recognised, open up access to higher civil service positions and entitle you to a pursue a doctorate.
Based on the goals of Emden-Leer University of Applied Sciences as a "university of the future", you will acquire specialist knowledge of circular economy technologies in this programme. You will learn to think and act in a resource-conserving way and to work in an interdisciplinary manner.

Course organisation
You can start the Master's programme in the summer semester (March to July) or in the winter semester (September to January). The usual course of study comprises three semesters with a total of 90 ECTS CP (credit points). The first two semesters in the Master's programme include lectures and practical courses at the university. The third semester is for the Master's thesis. This usual course of study requires 210 ECTS CP from the previous Bachelor's degree.
Students who have only 180 ECTS CP at the beginning of their studies can acquire an additional 30 CP in selected modules. In these cases, the duration of the Master's programme is extended by one semester.
However, students who can already prove more than 210 ECTS CP at the beginning of the TCE Master's programme (e.g. from modules from related Master's courses or honours modules of honours Bachelor's programmes) can have suitable modules recognised for the TCE Master's programme.

Semester contribution
Students must pay a semester contribution of approx. 398 EUR per semester. This covers the cost of the student union contribution and includes the "Semesterticket", a subscription public transport ticket for all local public transport, valid in the whole of Germany.

Compared to other cities in Germany, living expenses in Emden are rather low. Rent is approximately 200 to 450 EUR per month.

Academic admission requirements
The prerequisite is a first professionally qualifying degree (e.g. Bachelor's) of seven semesters or 210 ECTS-CP from one of the following degree programmes: Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering/Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Process Technology or another scientific or technical Bachelor's degree programme.

If you study at our University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, you can apply for accommodation at the local residence hall before your arrival in Emden. There is one fully-furnished student dormitory, called“Steinweg 20”. Residence halls in Emden are not managed by the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer. Rather, they are managed by an independent organisation, the "Studentenwerk". Therefore, we are not in a position to guarantee an accommodation in such dorms.

Every semester begins with an introduction week and a welcome session. Students are introduced to the new course of study and to the events and formalities in their new study environment. There is a lot to organise and a lot to discover.
The International Office offers a buddy programme. Participating international students will receive support with initial practical questions and will get a good insight in the student life and daily life in Germany.

The course of study takes place in the town of Emden (population 50,000), which is one of the locations of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer. Today, 3,777 students study at the various faculties. Because of their coastal location, the region of East Frisia and the city of Emden are popular holiday destinations and offers numerous cultural and recreational facilities. We invite you to visit the beautiful landscape in which Emden resides (the Wadden Sea, registered on UNESCO's World Heritage List). The cost of living is fairly low. Cities such as Hamburg or Amsterdam are within 300 km of Emden.
