The Faculty of Sport Science of RUB offers the Master of Science degree in Sport and Exercise Sciences for Health and Performance. The aim of the Master's programme is to provide a high quality, research-oriented education that considers the requirements of relevant practical fields. The programme will provide training in a manner that fosters the development of relevant knowledge, abilities and methods in sport and exercise sciences for health and performance that candidates will require for the demands and challenges of the career world, with an international focus and emphasis on managerial positions.

Master's students will learn practical skills, such as physiological performance testing and biomechanical analysis. They will also gain knowledge on the design of athletic training programmes and training programmes for recreational athletes and the general population with a focus on prevention. Each student is expected to research, develop and write a thesis that makes an original and substantial contribution to the field. The Master's programme provides the necessary conditions to achieve a future doctorate in Sport and Exercise Sciences for Health and Performance.

Students have to pay a social contribution fee of approx. 330 EUR per semester, including a semester ticket covering public transport in Germany (https://studium.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/en/re-registration-and-social-contribution).

Minimum of 950 EUR per month to cover personal and living expenses in Germany

• Bachelor's in Sport Science with 180 CP or comparable
• Scientific-medical studies with at least 9 CP

As a rule, applicants who have not obtained their qualification at an exclusively English-speaking institution or do not have English as their native language must prove their knowledge of English at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages by means of one of the following proofs:

• B2 level endorsement on the general qualification for university entrance certificate
• Language test IELTS (British Council): Score 6.5
• Language test TOEFL (paper-based): Score 550
• Language test TOEFL (computer-based): Score 213 
• Language test TOEFL (Internet-based): Score 80
• Qualification from an exclusively English-speaking institution (Bachelor's) – proof required

In the city of Bochum, you can find different types of accommodation. On average, students in Bochum pay approximately 350 to 600 EUR per month for a single apartment, which is below the average rent in Germany. A room in a shared apartment is usually less expensive.

About 5,000 students in Bochum live in multiple student halls close to the campus, which are run by the Akademisches Förderungswerk (AKAFÖ). In the halls, students have their own single room and share a kitchen and bathroom with other students, they rent an apartment with a private bathroom and kitchen, or they share an apartment with one or several flatmates.
