Description

This interdisciplinary, two-year MA programme is a unique, international study programme that prepares graduates for careers in business, administration, diplomacy, policy formulation, and research.

Students learn about EU institutions, European integration, the transatlantic relationship, and comparative welfare states. They focus on the pressing issues Europe faces today such as security, immigration, and economic disparity.

The full-time programme consists of four semesters, which are completed at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin's prestigious partner universities: University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, University of Bath, Sciences Po Grenoble, and Università degli Studi di Siena.

Study in up to Three Countries

This network of renowned universities gives students the unique opportunity to complete the programme at a minimum of two and up to three different sites of their choice in the US and Europe.

All students spend the first semester at the University of North Carolina. They pursue a degree in political science and experience the transatlantic relationship and contemporary Europe from the perspectives of two continents and multiple countries, cultures, and languages.

TAM is a truly international experience with regard to teaching, learning, and living! TAM students can choose to receive a Master’s degree from the University of North Carolina (MA), or they may opt for a degree granted by HU Berlin or one of the other European universities.

About us

Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin

As one of eleven German universities, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin was chosen "University of Excellence" in June 2012. It was successful in all three funding lines in the third round of the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments and awarded for its future concept "Educating Enquiring Minds: Individuality – Openness – Guidance". In an international comparison, Humboldt-Universität ranks among the top ten of German universities. Scientists here research socially relevant topics and challenges of the future and communicate these with the public. Humboldt-Universität invests all its energy in being a place of excellent research and teaching. Its aim is to promote young talents and to positively influence society and economy outside the university framework.
Every year, over 5,000 young people decide to embark on their studies at Humboldt-Universität in the heart of Berlin. There is hardly any other place where they can choose from the same variety of degree courses - among them, some international Master's programmes with lectures and seminars held in English.
For a first-rate university, international exchange in research and study is a matter of course. Humboldt-Universität has academic partnerships with more than 400 Erasmus partners in Europe, with over 150 university partners worldwide, with partners in two Erasmus Mundus programmes and four Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Windows Programmes with over 1,500 mobile students.
Every year, about 800 academics from abroad spend time at Berlin's oldest university. Additionally, researchers from Humboldt-Universität are welcomed at many different international universities where they conduct projects or field studies and teach as guest lecturers. Humboldt-Universität helps students with the preparation of their study time abroad and provides consultation to international students and academics on all questions relating to their stay in Berlin. Through the creation of international networks, intercultural research and teaching are thus being furthered.

Humboldt-Universität's long-standing main partner in the Transatlantic Master's Programme is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s vibrant people and programmes attest to the university’s long-standing place among leaders in higher education, which it has held since it was chartered in 1789 and opened its doors to students in 1795 as the nation’s first public university. Situated in the beautiful college town of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, the University of North Carolina has earned a reputation as one of the best universities in the world. Carolina prides itself on a strong, diverse student body, academic opportunities not found anywhere else, and a value unmatched by any public university in the nation.
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the nation’s first public university, ranks among the world’s leading research universities. A member of the prestigious Association of American Universities, Carolina regularly ranks as the best value for academic quality in United States public higher education.
Now in its third century, the university offers 78 Bachelor’s, 112 Master’s, 68 doctorate and seven professional degree programmes through 14 schools and the College of Arts and Sciences. More than 29,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students learn from a faculty composed of 3,600 members. Every day, faculty, staff and students shape their teaching, research and public service to meet North Carolina’s most pressing needs in all of its 100 counties. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's 282,886 alumni live in all 50 states and more than 140 countries.
