Description
Studying in the Master's degree programme in Architecture at Hochschule Wismar University of Applied Sciences means working in small groups, being supported individually, being able to draw on an outstanding array of technical equipment, and, above all, being intensively involved in design.
In times in which the architect's occupational profile and sphere of action are in flux, the most important thing is to acquire decision-making skills and the ability to act responsible through study. It is crucial to integrate innovative knowledge and research in the fields of green building, ecology, economy, socio-cultural developments, technology, and digitalisation into the architectural design process.
The programme is organised around projects, and it is modular. It offers interdisciplinary teaching. Design projects dominate the course from the first semester to the last. For each of the first three semesters, a design project is the main focus that integrates various specialisations. Topics are as broad as the architect's tasks.
Students can choose from a variety of elective modules to broaden and deepen their knowledge.

Further details
Course organisation
The programme consists of four semesters of study with 30 credits in each semester. During the first three semesters of the degree, students attend design projects and take part in elective courses, small projects, and excursions. Students have to attend to three large integrated design projects in total, 10 elective courses with three credit points each, and six small projects. You will write your Master's thesis during the final semester.
Each student has to create her/his own timetable. Students do this by choosing the courses in which they are interested. They select these courses at the beginning of each semester. The main specialisation fields are Architectural Design Research, Green Architecture, and Architecture in Context. Many students benefit from the opportunity to study architecture alongside students from Architectural Lighting Design, Interior Design, Product Design, and Communication Design, and the chance to take part in some of these classes in a related field.
In the first week of the semester, the professors and staff present the design projects and the elective courses they offer. Then the students choose their courses based on their focus and interests and create their own timetable. We offer new projects and elective courses each semester. You will have to choose a mentor from among the professors. This mentor will support you in your decision-making process with regard to the design projects and elective courses.
