The two-year Master's programme prepares students optimally for the demands of a working world that is increasingly characterised by internationality and interdisciplinarity.

To this end, the degree programme enables students to acquire in-depth knowledge of economics, supplemented by the expansion of research skills (e.g. Theoretical and Empirical Research Methodology), interdisciplinary competence and personal development (e.g. Business Ethics) as well as international competence (e.g. Economics of Globalisation) and language competence (e.g. language skills in English, Spanish, possibly Danish).

In addition to these three key qualifications, individual accents can be set depending on the desired profile and later career aspirations.

There are four elective specialisations to choose from:

• S1 Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management (e.g. leadership)
  • is dedicated to the development of professional skills that meet the specific requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises in particular.
• S2 Strategy & Organisation (e.g. organisational design of international companies)
  • focuses on topics of organisational design and strategy development.
• S3 Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management (e.g. Employment Law for HR Managers and Managers)
  • analyses the actors of an organisation as well as the design of working conditions from a behavioural science-based perspective.
• S4 Marketing & Media Management (e.g. Media and Communication Management)
  • Against the background of a pronounced market orientation, it is dedicated to questions of customer communication, media planning and advertising with a special focus on new media

The courses are held in German and English as well as either Spanish (German degree) or Danish (double degree).

Crossing borders – one study programme, two degrees

It is possible to enrol for the cross-border study programme in cooperation with the Syddansk Universitet (SDU) in Sønderborg (DK).

The double Master's degree consists of the MA International Management Studies – Business Administration at the Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) and the Danish Cand Merc Int (CMI), also called MSc in Business, Language and Culture, at Syddansk Universitet (SDU) in Denmark.

Good to know: Knowledge of Danish is not required. However, it is important to note the required English skills at SDU. For non-EU citizens, the courses of the SDU are subject to a fee.

Of the 120 credit points that are to be obtained, the Master's thesis accounts for 30 credit points.

In the key qualifications compulsory optional subject, which contains classes in "research competence", "interdisciplinary competence and personal development", "international competence" and "language competence", 40 credit points have to be obtained.

The specialisation comprises modules of 50 credit points, of which 30 have to be chosen from one and the same specialisation. The remaining 20 credit points can be chosen from any of the specialisations. The four different specialisations are as follows:

S1: Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management is dedicated to the development of professional competencies, which particularly meet the specific requirement profile of small and medium-sized enterprises.

S2: Strategy & Organisation focuses on topics of organisational design and strategy development.

S3: Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management analyses from a behavioural-scientific point of view the acting actors of an organisation and the design of working conditions.

S4: Against the background of a pronounced market orientation, Marketing & Media Management is dedicated to questions of customer communication, media planning and advertising with a special focus on new media.

Semester abroad possible

No tuition fees

There is a student fee of 309.30 EUR per semester. The fee includes the services of the "Studentenwerk Schleswig-Holstein" (providing students with student prices at the cafeteria, activities and free psychological counselling), the AStA (providing free activities organised by the Student Union) and AktivBus. The semester ticket entitles the holder to free public bus/train transportation in Hamburg and within the state of Schleswig-Holstein, where Flensburg is located.

The cost of living in Flensburg is generally slightly lower than in major German cities. A budget of 800 to 1,000 EUR per month should cover the basic cost of living, including rent.

Please note: To get a visa, the German government requires a proof that the student has 934 EUR per month multiplied by the numbers of months of the stay.

Academic admission requirements include a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an economics programme with a minimum duration of three years, containing
a) at least 30 CP in business administration / economics and
b) at least 15 CP in statistics / social science methods.

If you meet these criteria only partially, you can be granted admission under certain conditions. You will then have to catch up on courses from the International Management Bachelor's programme at the EUF, which might prolong your studies.

The MA International Management Studies – BWL requires a good knowledge of the English language (Level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages).

Applicants who do not have a German language Abitur or a German language university degree must also submit proof of good German language skills (C2 or telc Deutsch Hochschule C1) with their application. There are the following funding opportunities within the university:

1. The Deutschlandstipendium supports talented and high-achieving students of all subjects at state and state-recognised universities in Germany.
2. Schleswig-Holstein Doctoral Scholarships: For funding, you can apply for a state doctoral scholarship awarded by the Europa-Universität Flensburg. 
3. Partial scholarships provided by the Evangelische Studierendengemeinde – ESG – Evangelical Student Congregation
4. Partial scholarships provided by the Katholische Hochschulgemeinde – KHG – Catholic University Congregation

International students from other countries are allowed to work 120 full days or 240 half days per year.

The university offers a wide range of student jobs, which are also open to international students who speak German. The city of Flensburg, being a tourist town, offers lots of part-time job opportunities for people with a good command of the English and German language. However it is not as easy to find a student job without the German language in Germany.

The International Center together with the CampusEngel of Europa-Universität Flensburg also support and help students when it comes to finding accommodation.

There are no meal plans, since normally the students have only lunch at the cafeteria. They usually live in shared apartments with a common kitchen. Thus, they prepare breakfast and dinner at home.

The university offers the "CampusCareer" service, which is dedicated to both helping students and graduates find jobs as well as to provide workshops on application procedures, job interviews, etc. The different study programmes also have their own career days tailored to their students.

Situated in the German-Danish border region, Germany's northernmost university is a young university. Founded in 1946 by the British, it was awarded university status in 2000. Since 2014, it has been known as "Europa-Universität". In 2017, the Europa-Universität Flensburg (EUF) adapted its semester times internationally: in the spring semester, the lecture period runs from March to June and in the fall semester, it runs from September to December. With around 6,000 students, it is a comparatively small university. Young people from around 90 nations study on the Flensburg campus.

The main study programmes focus on educational science and interdisciplinary European studies as well as on environmental sciences / sustainable development.

The location in the border region is ideal for a university with a mission to live the European dream of intercultural encounters and explore its reality. For almost 30 years, Europa-Universität Flensburg and Danish Syddansk Universitet have been working closely together. Their double degree courses in economics offer students the opportunity to obtain degrees from both universities simultaneously.

The region is characterised by beaches, wind, and the sea. Situated directly on the fjord, with its impressive old buildings, low rent, a lively cultural scene, and close proximity to Scandinavia, Flensburg offers excellent living and studying conditions.

The city of Flensburg is characterised by its waterside location and by the immediate proximity of its neighbouring country, Denmark. Located at the northernmost point in Germany, the city of Flensburg is the gateway to Scandinavia. It is only a few miles drive to the Danish border; the Kingdom of Denmark is located even closer to Flensburg than Husum or Kiel, and it can actually be seen from the beach at Wassersleben.

The campus is located about two kilometres from the city centre. Approximately one in ten residents of Flensburg is enrolled at Europa-Universität Flensburg or at the University of Applied Sciences. This is particularly noticeable during the summer months, when there is a lively atmosphere in this university town. As soon as the cold days are over and the last lectures have ended, students meet at the beach or at the place to be in the harbour, the "Hafenspitze".

Whether it's the reflecting water, the sailboats rocking gently in the waves, the sunset or the fact that there is always someone you know, everyone likes the heart of Flensburg.

Away from the water, Flensburg's historical city centre and its identity, developed over many centuries, is one of the landmarks of the city. Spared attacks in times of war, Art Nouveau style houses and old villas can be found everywhere in the city. Its small streets are home to cafés, numerous courtyards, rum producers, a wide pedestrian zone, harbour pubs, and several beaches.
