Description

Our seven-semester Bachelor of Engineering programme, conducted entirely in English, blends engineering sciences with problem-solving, design, and communication skills. It prepares students for a wide range of career options in the field of mechanical engineering and also provides them a solid academic foundation for the continuation of their studies in graduate programmes.

Mechanical Engineering is designed for about 50 to 60 new students per year. Due to the relatively small number of students, a unique trademark of this programme is the students' close personal contact to the staff and faculty members of our department.

As a Mechanical Engineering student, you will learn the fundamentals of engineering design, simulation, and manufacturing, and you will also gain hands-on experience in laboratory settings and through projects with industry partners. Our expert faculty will guide you through coursework in topics such as mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science, numerical methods, computer science, and mechatronics, ensuring that you have a broad understanding of the field and the skills needed to tackle complex engineering challenges.

Further details

Course organisation

The first four semesters provide a well-rounded and comprehensive education in the most important fields of mechanical engineering. This foundation enables students to approach problems scientifically to develop practical solutions and also introduces them to the numerous practical fields within mechanical engineering.

The last three semesters comprise advanced coursework and an internship. The degree is completed with an academic paper in the form of a Bachelor’s thesis. Many students choose to collaborate with engineering companies in the region or worldwide for their thesis. The sequence of the last three semesters is flexible, which provides students the opportunity to craft their own learning journey including study abroad semesters.

In addition to imparting specialist knowledge, key skills including learning and working techniques as well as intercultural teamwork and communication are also promoted. For international students eyeing a career in German-speaking countries, German language courses are integrated from the first semester onwards. Meanwhile, native German speakers can enhance their profile with another foreign language.
