Course organisation
We know you’re excited to dive into your chosen field of study – that’s why you’ll be taking materials engineering courses starting in the very first semester. The remaining courses in the first semesters form a broad, interdisciplinary engineering base and are similar to those taken by other engineering majors.
In the following semesters, you’ll deepen your knowledge through courses focusing on different classes of materials: metals and alloys, ceramics and glass, plastics and composites (including bio-based materials like wood). Other courses focus on production and processing techniques, materials characterisation and testing and sustainability and recycling. A wide variety of technical electives allow you to tailor your programme of study to your particular interests – perhaps in biomedical materials, materials for automotive applications or sustainability. All studies include design projects and an industrial internship and conclude with a Bachelor’s thesis.
Do you not speak much German yet? No problem! This programme offers the option to take all introductory technical courses in English. These courses are spaced out over three semesters instead of two, giving you time to also take German language courses. This gives you the opportunity to build your German language skills while learning the fundamentals of materials engineering. By the time you reach the higher semesters, you'll be well prepared to succeed in a predominantly German-speaking environment.

Integrated internships
One of the advantages of studying at TH Rosenheim is the direct link to industry with hands-on laboratory experience and mandatory internships. The Materials Engineering degree programme requires two internships. The first, known in German as "Vorpraxis", has a minimum length of eight weeks. This initial internship should generally be completed before the degree programme begins and must be finished no later than the start of the fourth semester. Relevant work experience in your home country can be used to meet this requirement, or you can work for a German company during semester breaks.
A second, more in-depth internship is required later in your study programme. This is normally done by working full time for a company during your sixth semester, either in the region or abroad. After gaining experience in German and English, you will benefit from both language skills not only in an international internship setting but in a local one as well. At the same time, you will start networking with possible employers and gain valuable knowledge to build your career on. Sometimes, an internship even leads to a job offer after graduation.
Advisers on campus are available to help you arrange internships.

Requirements
Academic admission requirements
A general or subject-specific higher education entrance qualification is required to qualify for the study programme. Check whether you are eligible to apply using the DAAD database on admission requirements.
The programme also requires a so-called "Vorpraxis", a pre-study internship with a minimum length of eight weeks. This should generally be completed before the degree programme begins, but can also be completed during the first few semester breaks.
More detailed information on the admission requirements is available on the course website.
Language requirements
In order to be accepted into the English version of the programme, you will need a language level of German A2 and English B2. Once you are in the programme, you will need to show proof of B2 German by the beginning of your fourth semester. Most students do this by taking a series of six German language classes at the university.
