The Bachelor's degree programme in Sustainable Engineering and Future Technologies provides you with interdisciplinary knowledge from the fields of mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. As a graduate, you will therefore be ideally prepared for the challenges that await us.

A preparatory German course as well as intercultural and welcome activities are offered by HTWG Konstanz University of Applied Sciences.

During the first and second semester – known as foundation studies – you will receive broad foundational education and explore important areas of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and information technology.

You will enter the main studies in the third semester and expand on your knowledge and competences from the basic studies.

The fourth semester is a practical study semester. You will get to know the structures and processes at a company in the industry. By learning on the job, you will develop your knowledge, gain a clear idea of your future professional field, and you will be able to establish contacts with employers.

From the fifth semester onwards, you will specialise individually in one of the areas of specialisation:

• Environmental Engineering
• Data Based Engineering
• Robotics and Cyberphysical Systems

You complete your studies with the Bachelor's thesis at the university or at a company.

International students are offered language courses in German as a foreign language, which run alongside studies. This allows you to reach level B2/C1 by the end of your studies.

All applicants must be able to demonstrate English skills at B2 level or similar.

For international applicants, having German skills at the A2 level is highly recommended at the beginning of their studies. This level of proficiency can be achieved through a preparatory German course offered by the Konstanz University of Applied Sciences.

We Prepare Students for the Real World: The HTWG Konstanz is a university of applied sciences, where classes are taught using a hands-on and practical approach. All Bachelor’s degree programmes include a mandatory internship semester, in which students can directly apply what they’ve learned in classes and find out how to make the most of the second half of their studies. Our students often collaborate with companies on specialised, professional projects. The contacts established during the internships and project work give them a big advantage when later applying for jobs.

Research and Applied Sciences: The University of Applied Sciences Konstanz is a teaching AND research university. Our faculty have both the academic credentials and work experience in industry to bridge the gap between academia and the business world. This combined theoretical and practical approach is a huge benefit for our students.

Excellent Student-Faculty Ratio: The 4,800 full-time students at the University of Applied Sciences Konstanz are taught and supervised by more than 160 full-time professors and 230 adjunct faculty members who work in industry. The typical class size of 20 to 30 students allows for more direct interactions between students and professors. Outside of the classroom, our university is supported by a staff of 230 professionals.

Interdisciplinary Departments and Courses: The University of Applied Sciences Konstanz offers innovative degree programmes, such as the Engineering and Management major, which provide students with far more than just technical skills. In addition to technical and business skills, students also acquire communication and foreign language skills in these interdisciplinary programmes. Real-world project management experience helps them to meet the professional challenges of working in the globalised business world. Our students also work in interdisciplinary project teams that develop, for example, electric motorcycles or race cars. Or they can experiment with their own ideas in our Open Innovation Lab. Students also receive much-needed support when developing their own start-up companies. Such projects and resources on campus provide students with invaluable real-world project experience before they start their careers – and make them more attractive to prospective employers.

Future-oriented – Focusing on Sustainability and Digitalisation: The degree programmes at the HTWG Konstanz are designed to create excellent career opportunities for our graduates. The programmes are accredited by independent agencies, which certify the quality and up-to-date nature of instruction as well as the relevance of our degrees on the labour market. Our university places a particular emphasis on the major issues of our times: sustainability and digitalisation. These issues are interwoven in the curriculum of all our degree programmes, often as specialisations. Part of our mission is to also provide our students with so-called future skills. These interdisciplinary skills, which include data analysis, collaboration, and a business mindset, prepare our graduates to help forge the ongoing digital and societal transformation.

Modern Infrastructure: The HTWG features state-of-the-art infrastructure, offering both faculty and students cutting-edge tools for efficient and advanced teaching and learning. This infrastructure includes a modern computer centre, our award-winning library, and a wide range of labs, such as the Open Innovation Lab.

The city of Konstanz is the largest and most attractive city on Lake Constance and a focal point in the “Euregio Bodensee” (the European region that includes western Austria and eastern Switzerland).

Konstanz is located in the state of Baden-Württemberg. The state is known as the “home of the tinkerers, inventors and entrepreneurs”. More than 15,000 patents are registered here each year. No other state invests as much in research and development – 5.8 % of the gross regional product.

Konstanz has a population of 80,000 of which 15,000 are students. Because of its prime location, it is the gateway for many outdoor activities such as skiing, hiking, sailing, etc. Konstanz is a well-known tourist destination thanks to its attractive natural surroundings, extensive recreational opportunities and historical and cultural riches.

Apart from its beauty, the city is also known for R & D activity in various fields and its engineering, pharmaceutical, biotech and media companies, not to mention tourism. The University of Applied Sciences Konstanz has developed partnerships with many of these companies, giving students ample opportunities to complete an internship semester or write their thesis at a company.

Student Life On and Off Campus – Right in the Heart of Europe
Our students mostly live in the dorms just adjacent to the campus and within walking distance of the historic town centre. The cafeteria, located directly on the Rhine, offers both warm and cold meals, making sure no one has to study on an empty stomach. Right in front of the cafeteria is one of the highlights on campus (and in Konstanz): our very own beach bar, where students and staff go to kick off their shoes and have a drink at the end of the workday. We also have a student-run café on campus where you can meet your friends for a very reasonably-priced cup of coffee.

On the weekends, students have many leisure options: explore Konstanz and its surroundings, go hiking in the Alps, or take a short trip to neighbouring Switzerland, Austria or Liechtenstein. Or how about a weekend getaway to Italy or France?
