Guest students may partake in university courses offered in English. Once they have reached German level B2, participants may switch from courses held in English to courses held in German.

In order to become a full-time student, participants must attain a recognised C1 certificate (TestDAF or TELC). Although we do not offer courses beyond B1, we support participants in finding such (fee-based) courses. Additional language courses are also offered by our university.

Description

Are you interested in medicine? Do you like to work with computers? Do you want to contribute to the design of information processing in the healthcare system and thereby optimise medical processes? Can you imagine yourself analysing problems in the healthcare system and in medical research utilising a structured approach and solving them together with doctors and computer scientists?

Then the BSc degree programme Health Information Management offers you development opportunities: computer science, medicine, statistics, information research and documentation methods – these are the essential contents of this future-oriented study programme. In addition, you will learn to communicate in a success-oriented manner and to work scientifically, and you will get familiar with the basics of business administration and management.

Your path to a career will be prepared in a practice-focused manner through projects, two intensive internship phases and application-oriented courses. Health documentation and information managers are sought after by pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, research institutes and other health care institutions. The career prospects are excellent and the demand is expected to increase in the future.

The innovative study programme is rooted in 35 years of practical experience of the Hannover University of Applied Sciences and Arts in training health information specialists. Small learning groups, a pleasant learning atmosphere and good contact between lecturers and students characterise the study programme.

The "Health Information Management" study programme is a special programme within the German university landscape. A wide range of employment possibilities await graduates. As health documentation and information managers, they will have a major responsibility, because the results of their work will be used to make further medical and business decisions.

Therefore, in addition to the necessary professional qualifications, we at our university also promote the sense of responsibility of our students in a health-oriented professional environment. Without teamwork and communication skills, a successful professional career in health care professions is not possible – which is why we offer our students appropriate preparation.

Further details

Course organisation

Introductory bilingual phase:
International participants enrol as guest students. They begin their studies by taking university courses in English alongside intensive language courses to reach academic proficiency in German. Once they have reached B2 level, students switch to degree-relevant courses in German.

Full-time student status:
Upon reaching level C1 proficiency, students may apply via uni-assist to become full-time students in our degree programme. They can then have their previously attended lectures recognised and integrated with equivalent modules in the degree programme, potentially reducing the duration of their studies significantly.

The programme is divided into two study sections of three and four semesters respectively and currently offers three specialisation options, which are documented with a certificate: Methods of Medical Computer Science for Information Management, Documentation of Medical Care Processes for Quality Management and Controlling or Management of Clinical Studies and Statistics. The path to a career is prepared in a practice-oriented manner through projects, two intensive practical phases and application-oriented courses.
