Description

The innovative Mechanical Engineering (BEng) study programme offers a comprehensive education in fields such as computer-aided product design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), production automation, robotics, IT, and AI.

Students can choose from five distinct specialisation branches:

  • Product Development and Lightweight Construction
  • Pharmaceutical Engineering
  • Food Engineering
  • Mechatronics and Autonomous Systems
  • General Mechanical Engineering

The programme spans seven semesters and equips students with a versatile skill set.

Our degree in Mechanical Engineering offers diverse career opportunities across various sectors — ranging from Automotive, Aerospace, and Energy Supply to Machine Tools, Plant Engineering, Defence, and Pharmaceuticals.

Course organisation

The course is divided into three main parts:

  1. Basic studies in Mechanical Engineering (four semesters)
    1. Fundamentals in mathematics, mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, computer technologies/programming
    2. Electric and electronic technology, electric drives and generators, measurement technology, control technology
    3. Manufacturing of products, machine tools, automation, economics
    4. Product design, CAD and design elements
  2. Internship in engineering position (one semester) in a company
  3. Branches of studies (two semesters)
    1. Product Development and Light Weight Construction
      • Design methodology, finite element simulation, advanced mechanics, machine dynamics, motion technology, light weight materials, light weight methodology, strength of materials
    2. Mechatronics and Autonomous Systems
      • Motion technology, machine dynamics, virtual and augmented reality/digital plant, artificial intelligence, machine vision, practise in control technology, image analysis
    3. Pharmaceutical Engineering
      • Forms of pharmaceutical, planning and systematics of pharmaceutical processes, machine design for pharmaceutical industry, packaging technology, sterile design of machines, regulations and legal aspects in design of pharmaceutical machines and production processes, quality management in pharmaceutical industry
    4. Food Engineering
      • Food science, planning and systematics of food production processes, machine design for food and beverage industry, packaging technology, sterile design of machines, hygiene and clean-room-technology, regulations and legal aspects in design of food production machines and production processes, quality management in food and beverage industry
    5. General Mechanical Engineering
      • Wide range of different innovative topics

Possibility of finding part-time employment

Part time jobs are offered in the university‘s career centre. 

A lot of minor qualification jobs can be found in the closer area for the first semesters.

A lot of advanced jobs for engineering students can be found directly in Albstadt or in an area up to 50 km radius in local high tech companies.

And there is the possibility to work as a student assistant at Albstadt-Sigmaringen University.
