Annotation

Geoinformatics has an important bridging function between Computer Science, Geography-related Information Technologies and Geosciences or Spatial Sciences. Work and research focus areas exist, for instance, in the following: geo-information systems (GIS) and specialist information systems derived from this, as well as 3D GIS and mobile GIS; OpenGIS and interoperability between GIS and standard software; the development of geodata infrastructures, multimedia applications in the geosciences, especially geo-information systems and visualisation of geodata in the internet; computer-aided cartography and digital cartography; databases and meta databases for spatial topics; satellite-supported navigation and determination of position coordinates (GPS) and, as a result, digital data recording both in the field and digital image processing of remote sensing data.

The Master's degree in Geoinformatics offers a strongly research-oriented education which is realised through the integration of current research projects in Geoinformatics as part of the courses. Depending on possible areas of specialisation, these projects are in the fields of geo-information systems/geo databases or remote sensing and image processing. The specialisation option in remote sensing is a unique feature in particular.

The Master’s degree
also lays the necessary foundation, should a doctorate be pursued on this basis.

The degree course
also qualifies graduates to work in the public and private sector,; for instance in the segments of surveying, regional planning, environment, agricultural structures, supply and waste disposal, geodata information and geo marketing, transport and tourism, site and radio network planning, software and hardware manufacturing or in the insurance industry.
