The Teaching Qualification for Grammar Schools is the university component of teacher training and concludes with the First State Examination. The degree course prepares students to teach grades 5–13 at grammar schools. Students acquire the academic fundamentals for their professional role and are motivated and equipped to organise independent lifelong learning.

Admission requirements

The admissions requirements for the teacher training degree programmes with the academic degree 'First State Examination' is the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or previous education recognised as equivalent (NOT the subject-specific higher education entrance qualification).

For the teaching subjects English, French, Spanish, Catholic Religion, Protestant Religion, Latin, Greek, Philosophy and History, certain language proficiency must be demonstrated prior to enrolment (and sometimes also at certain points during the programme).
