Annotation

How do language and the media influence public discourses, social power structures and social groups? Why are we so captivated by TikTok videos? How do AI algorithms shape our communication? Our present is shaped entirely by media: we meet each other in digital spaces, use audiovisual media and engage in social and linguistic interactions – often without reflecting on how media and language shape and transform us and our societies.

In the Master’s degree course "Language and Media Studies", you will gain the specialist knowledge and practical skills to understand the mechanisms, functions and effects of language and media. The degree course bridges the gap between critical media studies and cultural studies-oriented research on the use of language and teaches methods, theories and practice in linguistic, film and media studies.

As a graduate of the "Language and Media Studies" degree course, you will possess a solid foundation in these fields, enabling you to analyse and critically examine the complex media world of our time and help responsibly shape society’s engagement with audiovisual, digital and linguistic phenomena – from AI and social media to film and video games.
