Bachelor's in European Economic Studies (BSc EES) University of Bamberg

Courses are held in German (min. 40%) and English (up to 60%). Participants can choose to write their Bachelor's thesis in either language.

The EES Bachelor's programme is an economics degree programme with a strong emphasis on international and interdisciplinary orientation. This is evident through language training in foreign business languages, the opportunity for a one or two-semester study abroad experience, and a wide range of elective options in neighbouring disciplines. For example, modules from business administration, political science, business informatics, or law can be selected.

Of course, economics subjects are also an essential part of the programme. The focus ranges from International Economics, Economics of Education, Economic Policy, or Migration Studies to Public Economics.

The three-year Bachelor's degree programme in EES consists of a four or five-semesters study programme in Bamberg with economics as the basic subject in the first phase and a one or two-semesters stay at a foreign partner university during the second phase.

In the first phase in Bamberg, teaching consists of a balanced mix of lectures and seminars. Instruction in two foreign business languages is provided in small seminar groups throughout the first four semesters. One of these languages can be business German for students with a foreign school leaving certificate.

The one to two-semester study abroad experience will be co-organised and supported by our International Office. The students will have the freedom to choose their courses before the start of their stay (changes are possible), thus guaranteeing credit transfer.

A double degree with selected partner universities is possible!

Upon graduation, the Faculty for Social Sciences, Economics, and Business Administration of the University of Bamberg will award a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in European Economic Studies (EES).

One semester at one of our approximately 250 partner universities worldwide is required; an additional semester abroad is optional.

Students whose home institution is Bamberg must pay a regular contribution for the administrative costs at the university (123 EUR per semester at present). There are no additional tuition fees during the student's stay at the host institution. A "Semesterticket" for public transport in the city of Bamberg is included (more information here).

Bamberg is still one of the cheaper student cities. In 2021, the average rent was 410 EUR per month (source: 22nd Social Survey of the German Studierendenwerk). Since then, rents and, above all, energy and heating costs have risen sharply, so the cost of an apartment is likely to be higher.

Students may be employed as student assistants within the university. Other employment alternatives outside the university are possible.

Bamberg's housing market has changed considerably in recent years. The demand for private accommodations is quite high, and rent prices continue to increase. The common trend seen in many cities, and particularly in university cities, is now quite apparent in Bamberg, too.

It is thus advisable to begin looking for a flat as early as possible and to be patient, as the process can take quite a while. It also pays to check listings in the local newspaper (Fränkischer Tag), submit an announcement that you are looking for accommodation, or explore the numerous online housing portals.
