Most courses are in German. However, some courses are only offered in English.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Natural Sciences is aimed at anyone who is enthusiastic about STEM subjects and is looking for a broad-based, practice-oriented course of study — without having to specialise right from the start.

It combines chemistry and physics with mathematics, electrical engineering and programming, providing a solid, interdisciplinary foundation. On this basis, you will acquire in-depth specialist knowledge that is closely aligned with current, application-oriented issues from research and development.

The programme prepares you specifically for the challenges of modern technologies and innovative fields of work.

From the sixth semester onwards, you will have the opportunity to deepen your individual interests:

By choosing suitable compulsory elective modules, you can specialise in semiconductor and microsystems technology or sensor technology. Alternatively, you can complete your studies without a specialisation and continue with a broad scientific focus.

The Bachelor's degree programme in Applied Natural Sciences is designed as a full-time programme and comprises a standard duration of study of seven semesters.

Modules in the first year: 

• Applied natural sciences in practice
• Data processing with LabView
• Programming
• Electrical engineering 1 including practical course
• Technical physics 1 and 2
• Mathematics 1 and 2
• General and inorganic chemistry including practical course
• Toxicology
• Technical English

In addition to the modules mentioned above, an interdisciplinary module (so-called ZIL module) must be taken.

Modules in the second year:

• Technical Physics 3 with practical course
• Mathematics 3
• Modelling and Simulation with practical course
• Physical chemistry
• Fundamentals of semiconductor and microsystems technology
• Basics of sensor technology
• Data Science
• Electronic components
• Electrical engineering 2 with practical course

In addition to the modules mentioned, an interdisciplinary module (known as the ZIL module) is also required.

Fifth semester: 

Internship, internship seminar, and practical courses

The internship semester is scheduled for the fifth semester of study. It lasts 20 weeks and offers you the opportunity to apply what you have learned in a company, organisation or institution and gain your first professional experience.

Last academic year: 

Students choose a total of nine compulsory elective modules.
In order to choose a specialisation, students must select at least five modules from the field of semiconductor and microsystems technology or sensor technology.
It is also possible to graduate without choosing a specialisation.

Bachelor's thesis

The programme concludes with the Bachelor's thesis, in which a specific scientific question is addressed.

It is possible for students to do a semester abroad or an internship abroad.

Varied

The semester fee of 199 EUR (as of summer semester 2026) must be paid by all students each semester. The semester fee includes the RVV semester ticket and the contribution to the student union. For the first semester, the fee is due upon enrolment.

You will need to budget at least 800 to 900 EUR per month for daily living expenses during your stay in Regensburg.

If you come from a non-EU country, you will need to provide proof of a certain amount per month. However, you may need more to pay for your room, food and everyday necessities. As the number of subsidised rooms in student residences is very limited, you may have to pay up to 700 EUR for rent alone.

There is no minimum grade requirement.

For admission to OTH Regensburg, international applicants need:

• a university entrance qualification
• adequate knowledge of German

UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE QUALIFICATION

For an application for a Bachelor’s degree programme at the OTH Regensburg (university of applied sciences) international certificates, transcripts of your educational records and diplomas must first be recognised by uni-assist. Please request a "preliminary review documentation" (in German "Vorprüfungsdokumentation", abbr. VPD). The processing time is four to six weeks, often longer. The VPD must be submitted by the deadline (see "Deadlines" / "Deadline for late submission of certificates"). Submitting the VPD application alone is not sufficient!

Exceptions are applications from the PR China and Vietnam. The recognition is the responsibility of the relevant Academic Evaluation Center. However, if the APS certificate does not show a grade, a VPD is also required. Applicants from India normally require a certificate of the Academic Evaluation Center of India in order to request the VPD from uni-assist.

If you have already attended a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) and have passed the assessment examination (Feststellungsprüfung = FSP), you do not need a VPD from uni-assist any more. Please submit your FSP certificate together with your foreign school-leaving certificate as a university entrance qualification (HZB). If you have a VPD for the Studienkolleg or any other kind of recognition of our school-leaving certificate from abroad, please submit it as well.

If you have an IB Diploma, you do not need to apply for a VPD from uni-assist. Simply upload the diploma as your university entrance qualification.

Students from EU countries are generally allowed to work in a part-time job like German students:

• during the semester: 20 hours per week
• during the semester break: full-time

Students from non-EU countries normally do not receive a work permit and are only allowed to work a maximum of 140 full days or 280 half days per year without a work permit (see stamp in passport).

Regensburg is a lively university city with over 30,000 students. As a result, the housing market is very tight. The search for a room is the students' own responsibility! It is recommended to start the search as early as possible, as many rooms are already assigned early!
