The first and second semesters are taught in English.

An obligatory German language course takes place in the first year (thirteen hours/week + intensive language classes of 40 hours/week during the semester breaks).

The third semester to the seventh semester are taught in German. Therefore, a successful completion of the German language course is required. Selected elective courses may also be offered in English.

Description

This study programme teaches you the big picture when it comes to the optimal interaction of a wide range of mechanical and electronic components in and around the car. You will learn how vehicles become the cars that we demand today.

International study profile:

The first year of studies is taught completely in English. Students will learn German in a compulsory German language course. Upon reaching the B2 level in German, they will continue their studies in German.

Free language courses:

In addition to German courses, students can join language courses (such as French, Spanish, Arabic, and English) free of charge.

Integrated/optional study abroad unit(s) outside Germany

Broad range of partner universities for student exchange:

All students in this study programme are encouraged to spend one to two semesters abroad at one of our more than 50 partner universities worldwide. The curriculum includes a mobility window that ensures a maximum of 20 ECTS credits of engineering/IT subjects will be recognised, regardless of the specific engineering content. Additional ECTS can be recognised if the course contents are similar.

Double degree option:

This study programme also offers the opportunity for a double degree with Tongji University in China. In this arrangement, students spend their last semester in China as well as complete their internship in China. Upon completion, they will receive one degree from each university.

Integrated internships

The study programme includes an obligatory industry internship of at least 20 weeks, which usually takes place in the fifth semester and can be done in Germany or abroad.

Students will also be assisted by the internship office and the International Career Service in finding an appropriate internship.

Academic admission requirements

General requirements: The general requirement is that an applicant holds an academic qualification that would enable him or her to study the chosen subject in his or her home country.

International applicants who do not hold a German university entrance qualification (a German high school certificate): In order to examine the equivalence of their university entrance qualifications, applicants should submit their qualifications to the "Studienkolleg – Center for International Students" in Konstanz. You will find all of the relevant information on the website of the Center for International Students.

International applicants who possess a German university entrance qualification should follow the normal application and admission procedure. They should send their application form directly to Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences.

Language requirements

English:

In order to ensure a sufficient level of English, applicants are required to prove that they are highly proficient in English by means of one of the following certifications:

  • IELTS min. 6.0 overall band score
  • TOEFL Internet-based test min. 79 points
  • TOEFL paper-based test min. 550 points
  • Cambridge CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) min. C
  • Oxford Test of English (at least 120 points and B2 in all modules)

To ensure a high level of language proficiency, only native speakers of English are exempt from this requirement. Furthermore, applicants whose school education or first degree was taught in English may also qualify for exemption. The TOEFL code of Heilbronn University is 2751.

German:

In order to attend the compulsory German language course in the first semesters, applicants are required to prove a basic level of German language skills (minimum A2, B1 recommended) by one of the following certificates:

  • telc Deutsch A2–B1
  • Goethe Certificate A2–B1

Before the beginning of the fifth semester, proof of a minimum of DSH-1, telc B2, or Goethe B2 will be required.
